Hi I’m Brad Firmino and this is my art. I see my art as a vehicle that has the power to free one’s mind from prejudice thinking, the illusions of limitation we put on ourselves and unleash it into an imaginative world. With a classical composition my work resides in the heart of the Renaissance Period, distorted through a POP art filter, bathed in neon video arcade lights, geometry, and digital backdrops. This is a rebirth, capturing the contemporary mind’s eye, a unique sensibility for a new era.
Art has been my passion for as long as I can remember. I was always drawing as a kid. I remember the first time I discovered coloured pencil crayons and fell in love with the effects I could create with them. I grew up on the West Coast of Canada, in Vancouver and one thing I always admired living there were the reflections from the rain-soaked streets; those reflections continue to penetrate my creations till this day.
I am almost completely self-taught. I draw inspiration from a wide range of things - from nature, people, religion, places and other artists. The Italian renaissance masters such as Michelangelo and Caravaggio rouse my inner muse alongside my favorite surrealist Salvador Dali; all of whom hold a special place within me.
Currently I am exploring different mediums, paint, materials and mixed media. I tend to throw myself into large-scale paintings, working in both oil and acrylic and enjoy the different qualities each has to offer. I also work in digital and screen-printing, which includes my own line of t-shirts. More and more I have been sought out for commissioned pieces. When working with clients on a commission I try to gather as much information as possible from them about the project in order to create their dream painting and not only fulfill their vision but exceed their expectations.
As I continue to perfect my techniques and try new things, I hope to build on the success I have had so far, and take my art further with new unique ideas and fun creations. If people feel stimulated by my art, if it makes them feel inspired, if I can open people’s minds to see the limitless possibilities life has to offer… then my objective has been met.
